Have you tried everything and still feel stuck?
There is a reason why talk therapy alone may not have worked.
If you have spent years in therapy, tried medication, read the books and followed the advice, and still find yourself back in the same place, you are not failing. The problem is not you. It is that most approaches focus on talking about the problem rather than changing what drives it.
I am Joanne Graham, an accredited Hypnotherapist and Strategic Psychotherapist. I work with people who are ready to stop managing their symptoms and start changing the patterns behind them. Using Strategic Psychotherapy supported by hypnotherapy, sessions are practical, personalised and focused on lasting change.
You may recognise some of this
Perhaps you lie awake at night with a mind that will not switch off, no matter how tired you are. Perhaps you find yourself snapping at the people you care about and not understanding why it keeps happening. Perhaps anxiety creeps in even when there is no obvious reason for it, or you wake up already dreading the day ahead.
You have probably tried to push through. You have told yourself to think more positively, to just relax, to get over it. And for a while, maybe it works. But the pattern always comes back.
This is not a sign that you are beyond help. It is a sign that what you have tried so far has not been able to reach the part of the mind where these patterns actually live.
There is a reason it has not changed
Most approaches to anxiety, stress, low mood and other repeating patterns focus on understanding the problem or managing the symptoms. And while that can be helpful, it often does not reach the part of the mind where the pattern is actually being driven from.
The subconscious mind is where automatic responses live. It is where habits, emotional reactions and behavioural patterns are stored and repeated. No matter how much insight you gain through talking about a problem, if the subconscious pattern driving it has not changed, the problem tends to come back.
This is simply how the mind works.
Strategic Psychotherapy, supported by hypnotherapy, works at this deeper level. Rather than analysing why a pattern exists, the focus is on identifying what maintains it and changing that directly. This is why people who have spent years in talk therapy often find this approach works differently.
These patterns can change
The responses that drive anxiety, stress, anger, low mood and other repeating problems are learned. They developed over time, often without you being aware of it. And because they are learned, they can be unlearned.
Change through this approach is a process rather than a single event. Each session builds on the last, gradually shifting the patterns that have been maintaining the problem. Most people begin to notice differences in how they think, feel and respond as that process unfolds, often in situations where they previously felt stuck or out of control.
Many of the people I work with have come to me after years of feeling stuck. What they found was that working at the level of the subconscious pattern, rather than the symptom, produced changes that talking alone had not been able to create.

Meet Joanne Graham
I am an accredited Hypnotherapist and Strategic Psychotherapist based in Mount Annan. Since qualifying as a Personal Trainer in 2015 and a Clinical Hypnotherapist and Strategic Psychotherapist in 2020, I have worked with thousands of clients supporting them to change the patterns behind anxiety, stress, anger, low mood, sleep issues and emotional eating. I hold a government accredited Diploma in Clinical Hypnosis and Strategic Psychotherapy and work with clients both in person and online across Australia.
My approach is grounded in both professional training and lived experience. I understand what it feels like to be stuck in patterns that seem impossible to shift, and I know that the right approach can change that.

Got questions?
We’ve got answers.
It’s normal to have questions about this type of work. Hypnotherapy is a focused, natural state where you remain aware and in control. Below are answers to common questions about Strategic Psychotherapy, hypnotherapy, and what to expect, so you can decide whether this feels like the right next step.
Understanding hypnotherapy
What is hypnotherapy, and how does it work?
Hypnotherapy is a focused, deeply relaxed state where you remain aware and in control. It can help you access automatic and subconscious patterns in a safe and structured way. Making it easier to create new responses and reduce unhelpful habits.
At Macarthur Complete Health we use hypnotherapy with Strategic Psychotherapy to create practical pattern change.
What happens during a session?
Each session starts with a conversation about your challenges and goals. Then, you’ll enter a deeply relaxed state where we work on reframing negative patterns and reinforcing positive change. You’re always fully aware and you remain in control the entire time.
How is Strategic Psychotherapy different from traditional talk therapy?
Strategic Psychotherapy focuses on how a problem is maintained in the present, not only why it began in the past. It aims to identify the patterns that keep an issue repeating and change those patterns directly.
This approach is practical, goal focused, and often more direct than open ended therapy.
Common concerns about hypnosis
Will I be in control during hypnosis?
Yes. You remain aware, present, and in control throughout the session. You can speak, move, and stop the process at any time.
Nothing is done without your consent, and sessions are paced according to what feels safe and appropriate for you.
Can sessions help if I’ve tried other approaches before?
Yes. Many people come to this work after trying other approaches that did not create lasting change. That is often because the underlying patterns were never fully identified or shifted.
This approach focuses on those maintaining patterns and supports change at a mental, emotional, and behavioural level.
Are online sessions effective?
Yes. Online sessions can be just as effective as in person sessions when you have a stable internet connection and a quiet, private space.
Many clients choose online support across Australia, while others attend in person in Mount Annan.
Conditions & benefits of hypnotherapy
What can hypnotherapy help with?
Hypnotherapy, when used alongside Strategic Psychotherapy, can support change across a wide range of patterns, including:
✔ Anxiety and Overthinking. Reduce racing thoughts and feel more steady and in control
✔ Anger and Emotional Regulation. Change reactive outbursts and respond with more calm and clarity
✔ Stress and Burnout. Reduce overwhelm and support recovery, focus, and resilience
✔ Weight Loss and Emotional Eating. Change emotional eating and binge patterns and build a healthier relationship with food
✔ Low Mood and Motivation. Shift negative thinking loops and reconnect with motivation and enjoyment
✔ Sleep Issues and Insomnia. Settle night time overthinking and support more consistent, restorative sleep
Is hypnotherapy scientifically supported?
Hypnotherapy has been studied in clinical settings and is considered a legitimate therapeutic technique when used appropriately. Research suggests it may be helpful for issues such as anxiety, stress, pain management, and habit related patterns, particularly when combined with evidence based psychotherapy approaches.
The exact results vary depending on the person and the problem being treated. That is why at Macarthur Complete Health, hypnotherapy is used as part of a structured approach guided by Strategic Psychotherapy, focused on changing the patterns that keep the issue repeating.
The hypnotherapy experience
How many sessions do I need?
Most people need more than one session to create lasting change. While everyone is different, many clients work with me for an average of around 7 sessions, depending on the patterns involved and the goals we are focusing on.
Some people notice early shifts sooner, and others choose additional sessions for deeper support. We review progress as we go and tailor the plan to what you need.
What does hypnosis feel like?
Hypnosis feels different for everyone, but most people describe it as a calm, focused state similar to deep relaxation or meditation. You are not unconscious and you do not lose control. You remain aware of what is happening and can speak or move at any time, while your mind becomes more receptive to focused therapeutic work.
Will I remember everything after a session?
Most people do. You remain aware throughout the session and can usually remember what was discussed and experienced. Some people feel very relaxed and may forget small parts, similar to drifting in and out of a daydream, but you are never “out of it” or unaware of what is happening.
